I think exporting the quicktime to a H264 format MOV can do the trick for you. AVI is also just a container file, simular to MOV.
You ony have to open the file in quicktime and export it ;-)
H264 from Apple will keep the quality good enough and the filesize much smaller!

thank you so much man...you have no idea how much youve helped me...im sitting here in a nightclub thats about to open and they are giving me hassle cos they cant get their shitty computers to play a high res mov file! Will this enable the file to play easier?

Is there any free mac software I can use or Adobe Premier CS3 to compress this a little so it will play smoothly>

hmm.. I guess you need quicktime pro.
It's easy to install, but you need a less-legal serial-box to find a working serial.Do you know where to find that?

what compression should i use in quicktime to keep as high res as possible?
- ev0
ok i exported it out but the quality is terrible now...anyway way to convert to avi and get a good res?

I'd use H.264 compression
current frame rate
High Quality
Best quality (Multi Pass)
Data Rate: AutomaticThat will give good quality... It works for me most of the time.

hmm... I don't know about AVI. Sorry

Dude there is no H.264 compression option available in quicktime...any suggestions?
- Xentic0
Hmm... are you on a pc?
maybe WMV will work for you then... but I don't know any pc programs to do this.

no man im on a mac....are u talking about AE or Quicktime...im talking about quicktime...im gonna rerender in AE with H264
- Xentic0
;-) It should be there in the latest quicktime. I was talking about export from QT.
I think h264 render from AE will also work fine. Animation codec is just a bit too heavy for some computers.

i dont have it in my quicktime but thank you so much for the help...rendering out of AE now...the longest 15 mins of my life!
- Xentic0
;-) I hope this version will be ok!
Good luck!

Also try the Sorenson 3 codec, at high quality.
I've noticed some dulling out in the color when using h264.

Do you have the whole fcp suite installed? That should install QT but it should also install a prog called Compressor which is used for file conversion. Its a tad tricky so you also might want to check out VisualHub which is a lot easier to understand and use and worth every penny of $29. Future reference

Try Visual hub.
