Ok, so I decided to learn to use a 3d app. I have a Mac. What do u guys recommend? I'm looking for something that plays well with AutoCad files.

I'd use it for room sceneries mostly. AutoCad now comes with some 3D Studio Max features integrated but there's no Mac version.
Is Blender a good choice for beginners like me?

isn't 'blender' free? supposed to be excellent except for the user interface

+1 for Cinema 4D. But download demos for all the apps and see which suits you best. Personally, i think C4D has the lowest relative learning curve of all the packages.
On the CAD tip, C4D plays nice with these file formats:
DWG, DXF, 3DS, OBJ, FBX, VRML

I know this hasn't got the sophistication of all the big hitters in the 3d game but I really rate this;
It's great for knocking together quick concepts and getting a feel for your object in 3d.
And it's FREE

I've played around with Blender and it's ok. I've also used SkecthUp and it works well for quick 3d presentations like stem said, it's easy and free. I'll give C4D a try.
thanks guys
