Classic. Not the shit that's out there now...

Nirvana is one of the most overrated bands in history, though I'll admit they were good. Bring the hate, but it's true. I graduated high school in 94, I lived through the whole phenomenon.
Pixies were better and more influential where it mattered, not to mention countless other bands.
Dave Grohl is the worst drummer to ever grace rock music. His obnoxious and simpleton style made a mockery of the instrument.
- but you still rocked to them at house parties didn't you?OSFA
- um, not really. Pixies definitely got more play, as did many others. Hell Mr Bungle got more play, haha.mnmlst
- '94? I graduated in '89, wasn't the pixies and Nirvana over by '94?fooler2
- yeah, hence i spent my 4 years of high school hearing them.mnmlst
- With a user tag like mnmlst I'd have thought you would be able to appreciate Grohls drumming.jtb26
- He's often said he intentionally dumbed it down, all of Nirvana's songs were very simple.jtb26
- He's actually a really incredible and creative drummer. Listen to the QOTSA album he did.jtb26

Nirvana is a MTV success story.

If Kurt Cobain would have been a fat dude like Frank Black (pixies) maybe Nirvana wouldn't had the success it had.
Nirvana was good and all. but Mtv and the medias helped created the phenomenom

every generation has its rock heroes.
talk about nirvana to a 45 y-o dude, he will laugh at you.in 20 years, people will tell you that My Chemical Romance was the shit and that the music of 2030 is so boring and lame.
- benfal990
BTW, iam not a Nirvana hater. I like 'em a lot too. Iam just trying to stay lucid.
- 3030
And this is clear example how nice thread was turned into shit...

thank you Ben, you lucidity is always refreshing,
I loved and still enjoy Nirvana,
but Kurt and his band werent' the best artist out there,
they just happend to hit it off at perfect moment.

First Nirvana song I ever heard was Negative Creep from Bleach. Couldn't believe my ears – amazing song and love the fact that this album cost only $606.17 to make. A classic in every respect.

I'm sorry, but no matter how good Nirvana's initial release was..they are not the Godfathers of Grunge. That title belongs to Pearl Jam. They have stood the test of time, put on one hell of a live show, and even progressed their sound instead of putting out the same re-hashed shite.
- Pearl Jam stink of Musos.JamesBoynton
- And wait... In Utero is a country mile from Nevermind... so re-hashed shite doesn't really work.JamesBoynton
- irr, your username fits your bad opinion perfectly, hahahamnmlst

Part of the reason that Nirvana was so good is that the 80s were so bad.
- really?georgesIII
- Hey, 80's were fuckin cool!ItalianStallion
- The Cure, Pixies, Galaxie 500, the Smiths... the 80s were amazing.nosaj

and the death of Kurt help to create a sort of bubble that surround the band and protect it and make it legendary. Like every other rock star that died prematurely. Thats doesnt erase the fact that they got talent, it just boost the fact that they were "so great"

I think Grohl has done a good job at keeping the spirit alive and representing what would've become of Nirvana through their mainstream exposure. He turned a bit more poppy with FooFighters, but still does a bunch of rock projects with Queens of the Stoneage and Crooked Vultures. They were probably pretty close to splitting up anyhow. Courtney was about to drive a steak into the band. Either that, or they would keep trying to squeeze money from shit like PearlJam has done.

i had tickets to a Nirvana show in 10th grade and got chicken pox 2 days before the show. i looked horrible. the mom wouldn't let me out of the house. major bummer.
