Panasonic Lumix range of point and shoots are great.
Panasonic and Leica share electronics and optics respectively, with Panasonic assembling the cameras.

panasonic has a lot of noise, the sensor is not that good.
go to http://www.dpreview.com and have a look at sample pictures of various camera's.
personally i always end up buying canons, also the point&shoot ones.

Canon PowerShot S5IS. Hands down. Despite the noise in the higher ISO ranges, you really can't beat the value of this camera. Wicked macro and zoom capabilities. In addition, you can attach 52 and 58mm filters and attachments on the camera through an adapter as well!

I still use the CPS S2 IS and you can see the photos I took with this little camera at: http://flickr.com/photos/jaylars…
Just imagine what can be done with a better model. This will probably be my next camera purchase, unless I feel randy and get either the 40d or Nikon D300....
