so i wake up this morning, turn on my mbpro(mac os x 10.4.11), check my mail and there's some extremely wrecked text all over the place. i look it up on google and i find a bunch of info on recurring corrupt font caches. i clear it, immediately restart, and some text is still all mixed up in both my mail and certain websites on safari.
i can only find info on clearing the cache but nothing after that. i've cleared numerous times and still jumbled text. has anybody ran through this problem and found a fix?

yeah that happened to me a couple of times and once i just couldn't be bothered to fix it i just formated the whole thing. i think it's got to do with your system fonts. check that the folder has all the appropriate fonts. look online there's some places that have listings of default mac fonts.
other than that if you use a font manager like fontexplorer you can always do the clean caches options and see what works for you. you should NEVER move or replace the system fonts either make a copy or leave them be...
that's all i can say.

horton,
i used font finagler AND linotype's font explorer to clear out the cache. both did the usual with the immediate restart and once i opened up mail, the jumbled text still appears.
