I saw him speak at my college. He was about 5' tall and carried an ornate cane with a silver eagle's head as its handle.

(Nov 10 07, 12:10)funny you mention it. I've always wondered why the US adopted the Roman Polity and neo-classical symbolism. Is there a founding text or available reference for this? It's a very interesting subject.

I never quite understood how someone so known for his machismo would choose to live in Provincetown, arguably the most openly gay town you'll find anywhere.

it looked like the same cane that was used to beat lon chaney's wolfman to death

well the best canes have swords concealed inside, but that wasn't really the answer I was expecting.

well since no one's answering my question I have to conclude you've never asked it yourself. But you should. It's your country's History after all.

alot of the roman imperial symbolism came by way of freemasonry and of course many those virginia slave-owning squires and new england nabobs were freemasons.
Third rate mysticism mostly.

(Nov 10 07, 16:00)Oh for crying out loud...where did you go? Art college? Pick up a book...
Witt check out the "Federalist papers" to find out why the framers where enamored of the Roman Republic...(note not Imperial Rome..Republic..)
Also neo-roman revival was the chic thing in architecture, et al. at the time in Europe as well...
