Speak to the boss.
If he seems like a nice guy, maybe just tell him up front.
If I were in that situation, I would totally chicken out and never tell anyone for like weeks until it REALLY started to bother me. After which I would try to drop hints, and then finally tell the boss.

i was in a similar situation. the company i was working for stuck 6 of us into a room at our own desks and one of the new hires was a very obese man who had b.o. and what seemed to be a problem wiping.
with 7 of us in the room now and our computers it would get hot so we got a fan to blow air into the room.
each morning we'd point the fan at him to blow the smell away from the rest of us. he, not catching on didn't like the air on him and would always turn the fan away.
it was horrible.
finally i went to the boss and complained. i just really made it a point to put it a nice way to the boss. i was like the 3rd person who complained.

(Nov 6 07, 08:12)Depends. Who may end up with a boss who actually works.

(Nov 6 07, 08:17)ALWAYS kill the face first... otherwise it looks at you with a bemused look. And that can be unnerving.

(Nov 6 07, 08:14)True, but sometimes they have a large office someplace else in the area.

A gross kid in my algebra class in high school did not wear deoderant.
One day this guy Tom set a stick of Brut (classy, real classy stuff) on his desk, and at the end of class Tom walked up to the kid and slapped him across the face and said "I guess you need manners too since you didn't thank me for the gift."
I think he got in school suspension for a couple days.

(Nov 6 07, 08:10)I guess the boss sat him down in his office and had a talk with him about it. I have no idea how he put things during the meeting but soon after I left the company for a new place so I don't know how it went.
The next day he came in and it was better but it didn't last long. The guy was just so overweight I don't think he could help it.
Axe body spray in this instance would be acceptable. But then it would smell like Axe and Ass. Not good.

don't listen to these fools. just send him an email telling him that he smells like a pig.

It's a delicate situation for sure. My suggestion is upon meeting anyone who smells rank to point them out to the crowd, and at a loud decibel level exclaim how foul the odor is that emanates from them at such a high quantity my olfactory senses want to cry.
Though to be fair, this happened once in my office but it was with a woman who wore Patchuloia. I simply told her one time that I personally hate the smell of it, I think it is vile, and reminds me of dirty hippies - so if she could please at least tone that motherfucker down a few notches maybe I wouldn't want to jump out of my 4th story window because the smell of that shit makes me want to break something and/or injure myself.
I think she thought I was joking, but then finally people went to HR about it. The thing is, I hardly, if ever, had any interaction with her. But it would seriously put me in a horrible mood, and that was not like me ... so I just kind of stopped coming into work ...
Now she stopped doing that apparently, but who knows, I am so used to not being at my desk it really was a blessing.
