so let me see if I follow right?
Facebook was just valued at $15 Billion... and Microsoft is in talks of purchasing (i think that's right)...
... but now Myspace is joining in w/Google...
... sooooo...
... basically - that $15 billion value (of Facebook) was a load of shit?
If Myspace... is Google... then...
... Facebook... is no more?I'm wondering if these 'social network' sites are going to be the second DOT COM bust... how long will these sites stay trendy and popular?... LOADS of cash being thrown at them.

"so let me see if I follow right?"
- i can tell you you ain't"Facebook was just valued at $15 Billion... and Microsoft is in talks of purchasing (i think that's right)..."
- incorrect. facebook sold 1.6% of it's social al program/data mining to M$ of which that feature set was said to be worth $240M. they did NOT sell 1.5% OF Facebook. big difference. additionally, that valuation is a load of crap as some journalist did simple math and said that is what the lot of Facebook corp would be worth. not even close. it is for future, proprietary data rights that M$ deal was valuated at, not company worth."... but now Myspace is joining in w/Google..."
- true. it is a deal for the OpenSocial platform only.... sooooo...
"... basically - that $15 billion value (of Facebook) was a load of shit?"
- no."If Myspace... is Google... then...
... Facebook... is no more?"
- read it again. google did not purchase nor will it control anything MySpace does."I'm wondering if these 'social network' sites are going to be the second DOT COM bust... how long will these sites stay trendy and popular?... LOADS of cash being thrown at them."
- a very long time. effectively, platforms that enable user-generated content to be combined across what were before, essentially 'closed' networks will be the furture of the internet to a large degree. at least the public side of it.PonyBoy

I've never cared about anything less than this.
- madirish0
oh, i bet you have.

other than hygiene of course.

it's the 'if we all band together, we can win this thing' approach.
not sure if i see that happening...
ultimately, its the users that will decide which platform they enjoy the most...
and all the 'open this and that' won'tbe a big influence on most folks....people seem to really dig facebook right now, and i see that going on for quite a while...nothing lasts for ever, but ...look....when google sowed up all the search, lots of companies suddenly were going to 'reinvent' search...anyone using those other internet search tools much?..no?...didn't think so..
suddenly facebook has the upper hand and all these companies are going to try and do it better?..
yeah...ok...i'll see that when i see a google killer...then again..who knows...

agreed, ex. i think it is funny media-hype tryng to see 'who will knock down facebook', etc. who fark cares? facebook got $240M do send data on their terms to a ad/contnet partner. who cares if someone does something 'better'??
the user-platform and what will be taken to, though, is interesting to me.
- exador10
i totally agree madirish...
the only thing i find interesting here is the tech/geek angle...i think some bigwig insider summed it up by saying he wasn't that excited or impressed by the whole 'glomming' together either..but was interested in seeing what might 'accidentally' emerge from all the hubub...
thats where it gets interesting...

I got bored of Facebook quickly.
In fact, I am bored of most things now. Maybe it's just me.
- madirish0
haha. as a side note here, IMO facebook UI is fucking horrible. i cannot stand that app.
this has zero bearning on my posting this thread or wanting google to 'beat them', but just tghought i would throw that in there. :)
