great work hyperakt. great site for a great issue that needs an INFINITE amount more attention than it gets.

the first guy was excluded until 1996. the second person was excluded in 1960. the third person... excluded in 1969.
am i missing something or does the aclu need to get the fuck over shit that happened 40 years ago?
what am i missing here?
nice site though. the flash work and execution are really sharp.

You're speedy madirish. I'm still perusing the thing.
Really nice site.

They were blocked from getting visas up until the late 90s though.

did they ever think of trying mastercard?

pablo neruda : stalinist, friend of assassins, all around party boy. Sometimes artists and writers can be vile wet shits and we do deserve to hear them? Yes. and ACLU doesn't have to sugar coat them they way they did Neruda for example.

(Oct 18 07, 11:51)does the *ACLU* need to get over shit??? do you seriously mean to write that?
i think you are missing some stuff here, duder. this is not about the ACLU, but rather the policies of the US and corroberation w/in the USCIS, executive branch and DHS(now) have been implimenting for decades.
goes a little beyond a couple of people not getting visas granted...

some people's knee-jerk reactions to the word "aclu" don't surprise me one bit.

madirish, somewhat tongue in cheek somewhat not. as capsize stated above, the sugar coating and visas denied 40 years ago i had the problem with.
i get it, i do but...

just a question i'd like to throw out there. is the u.s. the only country to ever deny someone entry?

Mmmmmm...wood grain....

nope, and not the only country I (for one) would like to have brought to the forefront their human rights violations and policies on a grander scale.
tongue-in-cheek or not, this issue has so far reaching detrimental impacts to sustainability it is mind-numbing. i happen to be very close to the issue personally for a number of personal and professional reasons i admit. but to cast this off as an 'ACLU issue' is more dense than i care to let pass.

(Oct 18 07, 12:06)im sure not! i understand the point of the site, agree with it, but also you got to think of the "best interests" (yes with the hand gesture and everything) of the countries letting these people in. It's a complicated matter, indeed...
on a personal note, ive travelled quite a bit and the US is the only country i've been (that i remember) which the landing card asks if you've been part of the nazis, terror group etc etc...and to get a visa you need to state ALL the countries you've ever set your feet on in the previous 10 yrs....for example...

The question is why the usg should fear intellectuals with documents travelling in and out of the country? But clearly some parts of the givt does fear them in some periods more than others. I find it strange and idiosyncratic probably exclusions are set by an individual in State Dept./ DHS/ CIA/ DIA take your pick with far too much power and a way to prove it. All the more reason for why the exclusion is made to be public and clear. Its indefensible obviously; we are far better to hear and judge our detractors, opponents, etc than to keep them out where we can't influence them at all.
For the record, MIA father was involved with the Tamils, not exactly choir boys. But then neither was NORAD and half the irish bartenders in NYC fed that org.
