I'm about to buy a new MacBook, and I just sold off my PowerBook of 4 years. I never had AppleCare on the PB, I was usually able to fix the problems myself or I'd call a friend who's a Mac Repair guy.
Do you guys have AppleCare? Worth it? It really jacks up the price of a computer, but I guess it could be worth it.

ALWAYS worth it.
On my past five Powerbooks and Macbooks I've had Applecare, and it has paid for itself ten times over on all of them.
I may have been unlucky, and I am not as big of an Apple fan as some of the others on here, but when something breaks, and you can bet your ass it will, whatever it is - applecare will be cheaper than to buy whatever is broken separately. Not to mention the next thing that will break a few months after that. That will happen too.
So yes - do it.

even though their service has been going down hill, its still worth it

(Oct 16 07, 10:39)I agree.. they let me down with my previous computer 3 times, even with applecare in effect till december this year..
I always got it for all my macs but now I'm starting to doubt about it.

Apple is going sour in my opinion, but the bottom line is when your monitor goes it will be a thousand dollars to fix it.
I am really god damn cheap and i would never pass on applecare, but you have one year to get it. the first year is covered. Im actually so cheap I waited until the last day and renewed it online.

for me
since the Cube
the product lifecycle for apple product has been about a year.
couple of weeks after first year warranty runs out, BAM its broken
also if you can buy a computer, dont buy from apple store, buy from apple retailer. they give you better service and they tend to bundle your problem and lower your cost.
i dropped my laptop and had to get a new case, the reseller managed to get a warranty for service on that so i only needs to pay for the case not the labor (labor was triple the cost of the case)

I'd say get the applecare, just take it to a good reseller service provider instead of the apple store when shit breaks. many of them cover their service under apple care, yet without the shitty service that the apple stores provide. every experience i've had with the apple store has been shitty and their "genius" folk are always the cause of their shittiness.
for what it's worth, i've had 2 fans and a keyboard replaced on my MBP under applecare.

I don't know how the warranty works with a credit card, but I know there is some kind of warranty that lasts an extra year. I still have like 10 months before my 1st year warranty expires, so I will wait. If I had an Apple store in my area I may have been more enthusiastic to purchase Apple Care.
You'd think they'd have an Apple store in Ottawa by now.
