ferfucksake.
i cannot, for the life of me, get this fucking .ai file to export WITH LAYERS MAINTAINED to photoshop.
can *anyone* (horton, etc) shed light on this?? i can export all day as a flat fucking image, but then;
a)cannot figure out how to 'release to layers' or someshit in PS
or
b)get the file to export like i am asking/able to from Illy in the first place.artwork is a 10-layer .ai file w/ nothing outside the artboard, and only a few raster effects.
i have exported every file type i can think of then tried opening/importing in PS to no avail. this is killing me.

if what i just discovered is actually true, this is the most retarded thing Adobe could ever have done.
if i export w/ *only* 4 layers visible, the .psd's come out perfect. w/ 5 or more, no go.
ferfucksake. are you kidding me Adobe??

i've struggled with this before..
might defeat your reason for building in AI, but i bet if you uncheck "maintain text.." option in the .psd export dialogue it'll work.
- madirish0
hey man,
nope- that don't do it either. that was my #1, 2 guess at first (2 hours ago).
i even went as far to outline all text and test with this checked/unchecked- no work.

Ai>export as .psd file open in PS

lol
dude, bro, miami- read my post. NOT happening.
:)
- horton0
actually yeah i just tried a test and unchecking maintain text didn't help... but unchecking text option AND "maintain max..." did go through as a .psd with all layers intact.
weird.
- CALLES0
hehe... didn't read the whole thing.... but yeah... its kinda weird... stupid if you ask me.. Adobe is always doing some shit like that... i guess that going to be an upgrade in CS4 and you'll get to pay for it =)
- horton0
sorry that was uncheck maintain type AND "maintain max editability" option.. worked on a test here.
but no idea what you actually lose in the process.
- madirish0
wtf? srsly horton? i have done the same and it is a no-go.
- how many layers in yours?
- any effects?
- horton0
yeah i just went back and tried again on a early version of same art with more active effects and layers and it shit the bed.
guess AI can't raster so much info in one export.. ? lame.

fucking BOO Adobe.
:(
- madirish0
you will never believe this one dude(s)-
i turn on ALL layers of the same damn artwork, evect for the 'top' layer (literally the top one in the layers palette) and the farking thing exports all day long perfect to a .psd. even if i add more layers below it!!

I do this on most of my projects, and it always works fine for me, even with hundreds of layers. Only thing I can think of is maybe the software has trouble processing something in your file? Unless it is different on Mac.
