you can use any font at all, as long as you realise that most folks wont have them and specify some fall backs. That's what the list on your link is describing; how you would specify the fonts in CSS to get the look you want on different platforms.

i'm basically wondering if Geneva (and all those mentioned) are all acceptable web fonts. or should i stick to Arial, Verdana etc...
?

if you want it to display in geneva on a mac then cool, but you'd specify arial as a pc fall back in the style sheet.
thing is they are different x heights and cap heights and what not and the layouts would look different...

You can always set Geneva first, then fall back to Verdana or Arial.
