Hi guys
quick question, my friend has a new macbookpro 15 inch and when you close the lid the top and bottom dont sit together as the bottom part appears to be warping... so bad that sometimes when you put a cd in you cant get it out again!
i had a look on google but couldnt find anything... any ideas? is this common?
cheers guys

um, not common... contact Applecare.

Hate to say it, but mine is warped too and I suspect it may be a common *feature*.
Also, the metal where the top lid release button has also bowed out - which really annoys me. I think it's probably because the chasis get very hot and since it's made of metal it most likely distorts.
I've concluded, while I like the computer - the build quality is extremely poor for the price I paid (almost £2k).
I've got blobs on the screen too!!.

you have a warranty. I've just got used to taking it back until its fixed, for any little thing. They probably hate me.

I would say get a hold of applecare, I have the G4 powerbook and mine warped on me so bad I couldn't get CD's out and it completely damaged my CD-Rom drive. I have replaced it three times to no avail.
Do what everyone else is saying and contact apple care before your warranty expires.

one of our designers had the same problem - turned out that the battery was 'expanding' and eventually ended up double its width! Starts out with a warping, ends up forcing the casing to burst at the seams....nasty.
Apple will sort it free of charge apparently...

Yeah, warranty and three years apple care - BUT - the computer is my business tool and to be honest I can't make any money if I don't have it, and I live 200 or more miles from the nearest apple store.
My conclusion is that build quality is poor - the machine will work, even with warping and poor screen quality. I'll limp along for the next two years and replace with another reliable product then, I guess.

next time, save money for a new back up computer by not getting applecare... since you won't use it anyway.
Seriously, you might want to come up with some sort of backup plan, if the computer is your life, then you should spend some money for when a computer does fail, you've got something to get you through

I keep misreading the title of this thread and it reminds me of:

I've previously had Apple pickup Powerbooks and deliver back in a week or so.... although recently they have been asking me to bring it to a store... not sure if policies have changed..

Gotta say, never heard of such problem. Have had a powerbook g4 for about 4 yrs. and another one before that for about 2 and none of them had that problem. What my first one had though was spots on the screen which apple said it was their fault and all laptops with this would get a new screen under a 2yr period from buy date. But your mac has a 1yr warranty and theoretically you should be able to get it fixed for free.

I have heard of this problem. Everyone just returns it to the Apple store.
Unfortunately, it does suck if there isn't one near you (I'm in the same situation). You could make a trip one weekend out to some popular area that has an Apple store, and then hang around until it's done or something.

yes. But not that much

I used to love Apple. Now I think they are scumbags.
I had a G3 for 6 years. Nothing ever went wrong. I have sinced owned 3 Apple computers, my current one is already plummeting in value due to new Imac.
Apples and oranges.
- ribit0
sure but just as your iMac value plummets, your buying power for a new iMac, better than the old one, rises... it all balances out.

i like having a fan on my desk to move the air (so i can fart better) and when i had the macbook pro at my last job i'd just turn the fan on and point it at the puter, which was up on an icurve. i never had one single problem with it.
i agree though, you shouldn't have to do that to a computer to keep it from destroying itself.
we also had to alienware computers though and one melted during a 10hour long use flat on the desk. so i guess it can happen to any laptop not cooled properly.

2 of my mb gone warped
my current one is warped like shit
when i put CD in, you can hear the sound of disc hitting the walls cause its warped
also the little metal piece above the lid release button is warped
i think my last one, 12 incher was the worst, it wobbled when you actually set it on a flat surface

wow, Dinky, that sucks.
I'm sticking with my Macbook for now. By the time I start thinking about buying a Pro, they will have a new version out. Hopefully it doesn't warp.
