I could see doing the same thing Kona, and my advice would mainly be: STAY IN SCHOOL FOREVER.

not too bad... well, at least better than the last version they had up.

"image maps and contemporary html/css" < that's a phd thesis right there.

Too bad art schools aren't hot co-ed magnets...I would be more inclined to teach part time.

that post made me immediately think of artfag.org
damn that site nailed it

Hahaha...at my first school there was a band that would play around called the Art Fags.

LOL Witt.
Speaking of this, I went to the site for my university's communication department earlier this week to see if I could find any course outlines for their "Communication Technology" degree program. When I graduated in 2001, they were just starting this degree path, focused on web design, internet marketing, and technology.
I couldn't find precise descriptions, but I have this horrible feeling that they are still teaching students how to design web sites with tables.

mg33. you just inspired me to go to my old universities website and look at their art program. holy.... shit.
the site is exactly as i remember it from 1998.
fuck. now i gotta call that place to see if i can rework it for them. might be a nice freelance gig. you'd think someone there in the art department, you know, the department that is actually teaching how to build websites, would uh... build a good website.

Post it Kona.
Here's mine:

anyway, image maps would still be ok for most users if the onclick map vectors wouldn't be such a tell-tale. if you need a large bitmapped screen and scattered links on it i think it's best to work with div+transparent gifs over a bg to create specific link areas.

Have you offered to go back and talk to the graduating seniors? Did a talk a year or two ago at the beginning of the fall semester with a couple other recently graduated seniors to talk about how we found our jobs, what we did, portfolio advice, etc.
Was alot of fun, even not having slept in 2 days (was the night after a new business pitch at my last gig). I think I scared a couple of them.

StratusGD,
I just emailed my old professor to check in and show him what I've done since graduating, and offered to come in and talk with the class if they ever wanted me to.
