Today in the pharmacy on 8th ave. I picked up an issue of Details magazine. The latest issue. Inside amongst the 200 plus pages of glossy glam fashion and style images of men as wealthy tasteful objects of beauty I saw 3, obscured even, brown/black men. And 1 or no Asian men.
For a media, the Conde Nast Magazine Details, that purports to promote fashion, photography, art, and yes a wide range of blaring consumerism to simply turn out that way isn't really new but in a democratic society that seeks true equality, I believe, must be questioned.
While the vast majority of we thoroughy imperfect black/brown/yellow/and 'red' men will never be a preterrnaturally talented person such as Tiger Woods and end up on the cover I feel a discernable imbalance of message in most all of the 'Old Media' that fills me with a distrust of many industries which are creative and amazing and which I myself use. Even Art industries. Why do Hollywood, the Record Labels, the Magazines come out with these statements that obsess on difference and marginalization? Where is real ethnic talent? It's not that fucking deep! Why is the talent that is chosen to be promoted the way it is?
I realize that the advertisements are art directed by each and every individual fashion label and who knows what the percentage of ethnic americans there are buying Prada but I want to give a big thanks to The French Connection for being one of the 3 labels making things diverse for the latest issue of Details Magazine, the others being Levis (yaaay) and Tommy Hilfiger.
If we are going to start holding companies accountalbe for what they do for 'The bottom line' then I'm not going to let you off just because you make art and beauty, au contraire.

My first question about your thoughts:
"While the vast majority of we thoroughy imperfect black/brown/yellow/a nd 'red' men will never be a preterrnaturally talented person such as Tiger Woods"
Where is that coming from? Is that your presonal viewpoint of how society reflects people of color?
- Witt0
i'm actually trying to imagine what natural talent might there in a sport like golf. Maybe Tiger Woods has eagle vision.

No doubt, don't let any of the degenerates get in your way. They don't have anything to contribute besides their idea of entertainment. Which is nothing more than playing tag like children.

JesseJensone:
Yes, I do see ethinc people reflected in the 'Old Media' as either a 'twice as good must be to make it', a rarity, a truly token talent, or a minstrel show's half wit to sing, dance and pull the line for money but never really conceptualize or say anythiing that will challenge outside of specific cadres. Concequently, the range of subject matter for us as ethnic people in America is fucking limited and by what, and whom?
Marketing statistics? Or just plaiin racism because the "majority' gets depressed, and humans in general, get depressed when they don't see images of themselves.Certain people have a vested interest in keeping racism alive and believing in it. Thus on the Sundance Channel you see supposedly preppy white guys making films about how corporate america is sooo disproportionatlely imbalanced. These dudes have their egos exposed as they have a vested intersest in racism being true.

I understand where you are coming from, because I have experienced it first hand, simply because I have a lot of pigment and dark features. On the flip side, I've laughed at every person that has tried to bring me down from doing my thing, while they spend their energy being sarcastic and racist, I've moved on to bigger and better things. I don't like racist people at all. All of my mentors are from many different races or ethnicities. The color of one's skin means absolutely nothing, except for the half witted people themselves who can't get over their physical presence. The internet only exists because our conscience. And there are people out there who still don't get it. Point being, a lot of people who are in "so called power" these days, are of a generation that still lead by those rules and morals.
Everything is changing to ethics, and day by day, our generation is leading the parade, because they can't pull smoke over our eyes like they used to. Color will mean nothing in the future, once the deadbeats are all gone.
