went to siggraph in san diego!!

    dope!
The emerging technologies exhibit was awesome, lots of cool shit in there... couple of real cool things happening in the 3d display field...
and of course new interaction technologies....

The MS surface was there, it drew a hefty crowd but i heard it described as a toy.
The Lemur is an awesome little box, it was fun to finally get my fingers on it.... nice response and feel.... i think the next version of that thing is gonna be awesome!! (one of the current limitations being not able to create custom graphics for your controls) youre stuck with presets that it comes with, although you can arrange them however youd like.

    Overall cool show.
It seems like its getting smaller thou, and i missed that feeling of fresh new cutting edge stuff....
I guess all the cool shit has been created..... now lets put it to use!!!

    ahh massive was pretty nice....

I myself was amazed by the rapid prototyping machines....

Imagine being able to PRINT fully functioning mechanical parts, assembled and working!!!

Somebody please lend me 30,000 bucks to buy one!

I was there... sat in on a few courses and papers.. some very clever people there (although they could sometimes use a designer and some presentation skills). loving the multi-touch, multi-user, multi-sided (top and bottom of the glass) interactive displays.

also thought the exhibition part was smaller than before... maybe its bigger when in LA?

'Fast Forward' preview of the whole weeks Papers sessions in 2 hours was cool...

hey anyafx - fascinated by the new rapid prototypers and wasn't able to make it there myself - can you tell us a bit more about them - links?

    thanks

On another note - can't wait for someone to finally commercialse all this amazing multitoch tech into something 3D artists can properly use for work!

this is what I want to do next... designing next-generation user interfaces for designers, looking at new metaphors, new input and display technologies... I'm looking at the specific needs of car designers, but a lot of it would be applicable to industrial design and more. Just have to work out where/with who I'm going to do it...
