Is there a way to import illustrator files into after effects with all sublayer components as separate layers? I can only get it to import them as flattened layers but I need to be able to manipulate each sub component separately...

oh, and that would be AE AI Import not AF. Duh.

make sure all your stuff is seperated into layers in illustrator, then import that file by selecting: import as Composition in AE.
that's it

oh, wait. not SUB-layers. that's too much for it to handle i think. woops sorry!

dont use sub layers, just normal layers...subs is too much for AE

Is there a way to split sublayers into layers in illustrator? I say this because the files I'm working on have many different brush strokes that have been expanded into vector shapes, all of which are already on the same layer and it's gonna be a real pain doing it manually. Then theres the fact that it isn't practically to create a new layer for every brush stroke you make when you're actually working in illy...

figured it out :) select the layer in question (in illy) and click the little dropdown menu for the layer pallet and click "release to layers sequence"
