Aside from my Words are Pictures stuff, I work full time in an ad agency - for my sins.
I started putting my book together a few months back after a senior member of my design team left and, to my horror, realised I hadn't done anything book-worthy for nigh on 10 months.
This really isn't alright is it? I feel like I've wasted a year. How long should you give a place before you say fuck it?

I say fuck it every single morning when it comes to getting out of bed and going to work.
If your work really really fucks you off though leave immediately, seriously. I stayed at my last job for 5 1/2 years, I was utterly fucked off with it after 2 1/2, 3 years of my life that I was fucked off from Monday to Friday - don't copy me.

Nowhere what the hell are you doing in an Ad agency? was that the direction you wanted to head in?
I was sure you would've got yourself a job at a decent agency with the standard of work you have?
I would give it at least a year though or it won't look too good on your cv though IMO

I have been told a formula
If the place you have does not offer at least 2 book pieces a year. It is time to start looking for a new job. But if it pays well and you are content, see the "burned out" thread for some inspiration.

I think I'm with you trev, but the weeks just fly by and you don't realise how long it's been.
Fine, that's it. My books going out this weekend.

Danceer! Don't think bad of me! I just sort of fell into it out of uni. I was young, very very poor and they were offering me lots of money. That's why I work so much evenings and weekends, so I don't go creatively cold.
Maybe my next job will be a design agency, fingers crossed.

...Don't worry about, I reckon most of the work on your site, would be enough for me! Love the letterpress work! keep doing personal work shows your passionate!

get back to work ;o)

make a design-oriented book (vs. an ad-driven book) and send it to design firms. somebody worthwhile has got to be hiring.
