I'm looking for new banner capapbilities if you guys can share meaning something other than the typical flash banners. Some new examples would be adding sound, video, drop downs, etc. What forms of new techniques are you guys using, and links to how it's done would be even better. Basically, share with me everything you know about the different banner possibilities. Thanks.

Thanks Doug, that's a great link. What would be most helpful is ifsomeone can share how these are created, and how to set them up.

not quite sure vp. banner ads aren't quite my area of expertise, especially rich media banner ads.
the place i'm freelancing at this week does a ton of them but i'm not quite sure how.
maybe someone here knows.

look on the eyeblaster site too, they've got example of they're technology.
In terms of good creative though, you're better off looking at advertising annuals rather than the delivery platform.
However, the bannerblog site is one of the better ones..not that I have seen any others.

eyeblaster are a massive pain in the hoop to use. their system, although powerfull is as slow as a week in the jail and it is buggy as fuck.

Visualplane,
you'll need to go through a serving platfrom ala: TZ or EB, that way you'll be able to do some of the more advanced stuff (rich/transparent overlays, expands & the like..) as for set up I wouldn't worry about that - any serving company will most likely provide flash components /documentation (the two I mentioned above do)The main issues i've found are with the publishers, as they can be a pain with regards to what you can & can't do.
However if you are going through a media planner - most likely - they should be able to sort out some of the spec side of things. Just get them nailed down prior to building anything!

Thanks for the info everyone. It seems like I know most of the capabilities available, but if anyone has any additional info, it would be informative.
So basically the options I have now are:
Video (Streaming Polite Banners)
Expandable
Flash
Adding SoundAnything else?
BTW, on a side note, how are these video banners created? We're doing mostly inhouse, so I'm doing some research on how to create these banners.

They are all created in flash and then served through a company like eyeblaster or TZ. They will supply flash components, such as video players for you to stream your FLV video through.
You missed out overlays in your list by the way. And you can also have multiple banners on a page talk to each other which gives you extra creative options.

How do two banners relay messages to one another? Thanks
- skt0
Can't remember anymore to be honest. I don't really make banners anymore. But I know I have done it in the past. Javascript probably.
Really, you should be speaking to TZ or Eyeblaster and getting their documentation rather than asking NT.

Good enough, thanks.
