Yep - This morning I spilled water on my MacBook... it shut itself down before I could. Currently it will start up but makes 3 beeping sounds and never goes past the initial grey screen.
Any words of wisdom or inspiration?

you just created a very expensive paper weight.

It needs more water to get past that screen. Try pouring some more on it.

Yeah in all seriousness, water and electronics don't mix. Good luck mate.

Thanks Neuarmy.
Only bummer is that it is my only mac and now I am back on PCs until the thing dries out/is determined dead. Very difficult to switch back.

put it in a bowl of (uncooked) rice to absorb the moisture...
I have no idea if this really works..
Prob best to get it looked at soon, so it doesn't have time to corrode...

I spilled water on my laptop. I opened it up and let it dry for a couple of days, and it works fine. Although it wasn't on when it happened, and not a MB either.

contact insurance agent. Prepare for premium increase.

(Jun 28 07, 11:49)That's basically it.
This happened to me before, except the damage didn't show up until weeks later, and the machine was completely dead.

This might not work with a computer but I dropped my cell phone in water and it wouldn't start up but dipped it in rubbing alcohol quickly after and set it out to dry. Worked great the next day.
The reason is that the alcohol will absorb the water inside the unit and evaporate more quickly. It may be worth a try.

Very carefully use a hairdryer over the affected area.
And I mean carefully...

dry it out thoroughly, like for days, before trying again
- Jaline0
yes, whatever you do wait a few days before using it again.

I would try to uncooked bowl of rice. I also saw a post that somebody did that to a crackberry that fell ont oilet. I guess it absorbs the moisture. Desperate times...

you shouldn't have tried to turn it on
set it in a box of rice overnight to extract the moisture
