monitors are important, I thought 1 24" would be enough...
IMO 1 24" for working space, Flash, DW, PS, etc and another 19"+ for itunes, mail, IM client, browsers (for testing, not NT), etc.

there are no reliability issues for monitors as there are hardware / software setups
companies are looking for that line between dependable and affordable

interesting insight, Kona. I agree. We have a great set up in that all designers get MacBook Pros maxed out but the monitors are a tougher sell for some reason.

what equipment is offered is definitely part of the deal for me. i find it hysterical to have some non-designer/manager dictate what will be used by designers. get them the tools they need to get the job done, period.

dual 20" widescreen or above
getting a 30" + 23" setup within the next weeks, instead of the 23" + 20" , should be fun

ive noticed that just like you can tell everything about a man, by his watch and his shoes, you can tell everything about a company by their equipment and their chairs.
in my experience, the fake aeron chairs = get the fuck out of there/don't take the position.

i don't care about brand, just contrast and teh ability to color adjust the monitor with a something liek spyder or whatever
i have 3 20" dells
(and 1 15" viewsonic *attests to the green)

yeah well, it's common practice to save the good equipment for the full-time staff and throw the freelancer with all the leftover shit you've thrown together over the years like some frankenstein system.
it's ok though, the view is amazing. 35th floor looking out over the lake. :)
btw, i love dell monitors. the 20" widescreens are just enough to work on, a 24" WS though would be epic!

thanks, Kona. Yikes...sorry to hear you are on a compaq monitor...at any size that's just cruel.

And...when job seeking, does this type of equipment factor into your decision to take the job or not?

(Jun 22 07, 09:20)sorry. should have posted this in my last statement.
yes it does. right now i'm freelancing at a place downtown, old hp desktop with an old compaq 19" monitor. TERRIBLE! but i see their designers have nice hp boxes and dual 20" widescreen dell monitors.
the other places i'm interviewing at i always ask what they use and the setup i'll be working on. it really is important.

lowest single monitor size would be a 20".
20" widescreen would be a superb choice for a single monitor.
dual 20" would be ideal.
if you want to go gigantismo size get a 24" widescreen.

version5, what kind of monitors? Apple? Dell?

i love working on 15" viewsonics. They really bring out the green.

For those of you working in design shops/agencies...what is the standard monitor set up for creatives?
