I'm considering picking this up and trying it out..... well actually, I cant decide between this and modul8.
I really like that motion dive comes with a controller, then again i have an oxygen 8 and an akai mpc pad just sitting there that could probably get the job done...
any motion dive users out there? any module 8 users?

modul8.

reasons please?
one thing I'm now noticing is that motion-dive isnt a universal binary for mac..
but honestly man, can you gimme some pros/cons in your opinion?
- version30
i used the first version of this years ago, great for live shows

motion dive,
the keyboard shortcuts are easy as hell and with a good cpu and enough ram, you'll impress yourself
downplay = to get good quality mixes i always needed to compress the video at 15 frames per sec, which is not bad but not optimal (btw that was with a mac powerbook that is about 5 years old now)

i have a macbook pro, and before a powerbook, with modul8 i never had to put the videos down to 15 fps, the performance was allways good and fast, motiondive is really cool, but it is old, i dont remember when it was last time updated, maybe in 98 (i might be wrong).
when i started using modul8, i didnt even needed a controler, i set the keyshortucts my self, whatever i wanted, with modul8.
now it has more effects, you can use different layers, etc. check it out for your self.
im not good at giving comparisons, so get the demos and youll see.
by the way, i use vdmx www.vidvox.com you might wanna try it.
also in modul8 and vdmx you can load quartz composer patches.
they are just more advanced.

anybody know of a full music video made with software like that? like not a vj set but an actual video?
- Meeklo0
I used motion dive in the earlier stages, I switched the first time I tried modul8. there is no comparison.
While the most important thing is the content you have, and how comfortable are you w/ the software,
Modul8 gives you waaaaay more control over your content, Motion dive is very easy to use, I give you that, even when it was japanese only you could still figure it out in a few hours.Modul8 also gives you multiprojection wich before you needed expensive hardware to do it, now if you go to a venue with multiple projectors you can set it up 7 areas and all continuos (meaning that they are all different)
Motion Dive's controller is not that great, you can pick up an akai drum trigger or any other controller you have to in order to make it work with it, if it breaks you switch to the next one, I have used modul8 with many controllers. (you can w/ motion dive too but my point is that their controller is not great)
If you are serious about Vjing, and on a mac, your desicion should be betwen Grid Pro or Modul8, Motion Dive has stayed way behind the curve.
I would still pick Modul8 over Grid Pro, but those 2 are at the moment the top Vj apps for mac.
hope that helps!

I guess the best thing to do is to actually download all 3 demos, and try them out.

I still like the results i get with Modul8 better, but..
I think the competion should be between mod8 and grid pro, not motion dive.are you in calif nadnerb?
if so, would you come to vj in SD?shoot me an email if interested..

Thank you guys for the recommendations.... vdmx looks awesome... and quartz composer!!! woa! i was thinking of diving into max/msp/jitter... but with quartz, i might not need to.. and the support for this technology within these vj progs looks awesome.
I've chosen modul8 for now, looks really easy (ive got a show coming that i need this for)
Again, thank you all!! I'll be sure to post some pics or some vids after the show.
If you guys are around the OC and have nothing to do on july7th (7-7-07) come down to the santa ana artists village, its our 13year anniversary and I'm doing huge outdoor projections (two 5k projectors! 4 performances) It's gonna be the shiz..

do any of these have global recording ? so you can make a video mix and record it, not nessesarily with the settings but as a video file at least?
- anayafx0
modul8 does, i believe vdmx does as well.
They record all your activities and you can play them back or export to a movie file.

I tried them all out when I was looking for a software to use, I found modul8 a bit weird to use it behaved a little unpredictably, and motiondive was all look and no grunt - not as powerfull as it appeared to be.
I settle on GridPro which is now VDMX5, whilst it looks quite daunting to use it's the best thing out there.
It's Mac-only at the moment, but check it out.
- M0NEYCIDE0
so could you adjust fx settings or timing after aswell?
- anayafx0
that I'll be able to answer in a few days...
im wondering myself
- anayafx0
Yo MoneyCide... check this out.....

this is a little video i made to a beat i made too. i want to take similar stuff and make more. if i had some vj software i'd be able to play more with the beat and stuff instead i did this all on the time line.
