After posting his short film on the web; Ruairi Robinson has been offered jobs from ICM, 3 Arts Entertainment and approached by Hollywood agents. What do you think of the film? Check it out... http://www.ruairirobinson.com/ma…

so i watched till halfway and it's all nice and pretty, the costumes, the make-up and color grading.. well done.
but i still have no idea what it is about so it wasn't very engaging to me.
clicked away.

Agreed. I admire the workmanship SO much. It looks fantastic but a simpler script with a compelling narrative will always keep your attention more. The big boys in CG hollywoodland should snap the guy up! Didn't really get a story from it though.

arg, I'm now mired in work and cannae watch it here. bugger.
Short films are a fucking murderous and brutal medium - if he's got what you've mentioned above he'll probably do pretty well in features in l'america

Nicely made, but didn't resonate with me so much. The apocalypse genre doesn't interest be outside of Mad Max.
I don't understand why people sink their cash into a high end short film, when you could take your cash and make a decent character driven feature. No one buys (and few watch) shorts.
Meh, best of luck anyhow. Not like I have fuck all to show anyway.

this strikes me (not having watched it yet, right enough) as a calling-card type of short, seems to have worked too...

True. I suppose it depends on how you want to present your self in the moving image industry... If he'd wanted to be a compelling writer/director I guess there would have been more character development. On the other hand, I think he's created a hook for a cgi driven commercial blockbuster film and I'm sure with this quality an LA(Hollywood) agent will take the bate. Gotta admire the workmanship though.

Yup, that's true. Given his other CGI heavy work, this is def. a calling card thing, with emphasis on VFX. And his vfx work is very well done.
Depends on what you want. Short film directors seem to go on to be commerical directors.
I like his Milk commercials. :)

I do a fair amount of directing in the commercial realm - this guys stuff is ultra high quality no doubt. But he may have been better doing something with 2 guys in a room and a fantastic story with a start, middle and end - then people could piece together his potential and see he was a serious no frills story teller. Awesome work but he'll always have the cynics going, looks nice but can he tell a story, because in the short, he didn't.

...massive kudos though and best of luck to the guy.

yeah the technical merit is fantastic in this one. i think that is what he sells. and hopefully he'll find appropriate gigs that fit his skills.
goodluck to him.
