I don't have any web experience, so was wondering what web-designers make of these prices (US dollars) for a website design for a sculptors site, he's not sure whether to do a basic HTML site or one with sections he can update himself (hence quote for databases)...
Basic static web: HTML or javascript with 5 sections, each with a generic design: $535
Dynamic development with PHP and MYSQL for portfolio sections + database creation (for site to read/update database section content):$400-500 per module
Database creation:
$55 per table.Small flash: $150-400 + extra
if requires databaseReasonable? any feedback appreciated...

sounds like roughly $1500 more or less. that is a bit on the low end for design and code, but it might be a good price for you to do the project to cut your teeth on. Also the fact that it has only about 5 sections makes it seem not very big.
to give you an idea about how much to charge, a good/decent designer can charge about $2500 per week and an agency will charge a designer rate of around $5000 per week. so you want to aim for something close to a week rate as you continue on in this industry
some things to keep in mind. make sure you get 50% down to start. and make sure you write a single page contract with 3 creative review rounds to limit the clients changes. and make sure you get tech specs to make sure you in agreement as to how the site will operate... hope that helps...

eek!
if you're looking to get experience, you can estimate per page, until you start to get a feel for how long things take you.
no less then $100-200 per page, I'd start at $200 if i were you.
Flash and PHP/database work is normally charge at similar rates.
