LCD is better. Plasma screens are pretty much obsolete.

If this is so why is Panasonics top of the range gear 37" plus all plasma??
This has thrown me...

Picture quality on a plasma is slightly superior but the reason LCD screens are more popular is because they last twice as long as a plasma, weigh much less and consume less energy.
If you're thinking of making a big investment in a TV, I'd wait until LED technology revolutionizes contrast ratios. I've heard that Apple plan to invest in this LED technology which employs thousands of tiny LEDs as a backlight to existing LCD/TFT screens - providing individually lit pixels!
Google it!

plasma picture quality is better but LCD's are cheaper and use less energy and will probably last longer.
We have a Panasonic plasma and although it's now a few years old it's still significantly better image than some of the LCDs I've seen. I would say there is certainly a different feel to the image from plasmas, so given the cost and the points made above it's probably as much a question of what do you like.If we bought an LCD now I'm pretty sure we'd be happy with it even if it were not as high spec as a plasma.

Well basically its like this.
All my gear is Panasonic so want it to match.
The 37" + Panasonics are plasma but they are not 1080p.
The Sony's at 40 + are 1080p
Samsungs are smaller and are 1080p but I dont like samsung
Sometimes I wish i wasnt a designer and but the cheapest.
In a nutshell, I want Panasonic but they dont do 1080p unless you pay about 2/3 K
