Anyone seen / done any modern-style wedding invitations?? My friend wants me to do his, and doesn't want "classic", but "contemporary"...
Any ideas chaps??

All set in
Helvetica Neue
or
Avant Garde

oddly enough, mine were set in Akzidenz...

You should seek out some directlion as to colour and style even if it means showing them different styles...

just look for some contemporary print works, the example doesn't have to be a wedding invitation, imho.

I always think with wedding invites its all about what stock you use, and classic simple typography. if you make it too mordern, sometimes this does not work. There needs to be a timeless quality about it.

yes yes I did my brothers in Avant Garde. They looked tasty.

A friend of mine had a huge fold out invite with massive type saying "Jon and Susan's big day..... (date)".
People put them on their wall as a reminder/poster and to display a nice bit of well set typogarphy

I did invites for my sisters wedding, got drunk with her and her fiancé and recorded then talking.
When sober, I got a list of quotes from the recordings and set them all in Akzidenz and did them a logo based on their initials which went on all the other material.

Ian, I really like the invitation you did, the quotes made me smile and I don't even know the couple. I also love the logo you created, lovely idea using the rm/lw combination.
someone usually posts this invitation when wedding invites are mentioned, so it may aswell be me:

Just got married last month, and the biggest thing for us was stock.. and the letterpress.
Clean, simple text on a nice thick stock in letterpress has a great feel to it, and really make an impression.. (no pun intended...)
Clean, Simple, Letterpress and shell out for a nice heavy stock

Cheers BaskervIlle, all very good comments!
Well, my sister did say she wanted something different. The good thing was, when I showed them the first draft they didnt remember saying all that stuff, in the end they only changed 2 or 3 quotes.

i will have some pretty unique ones to link up here when they are done in a bit.
definitly will not be your 'typcial' dimensions or format for an invitation.
love that concept and execution ian.
