Sorry guys, I may be about to do a Baskerville* and wanted some advice.
I have an appt lined up with a potential new employer in another country. A headhunter put me in touch with him and he seems keen on offering me a role thereby speeding up my emigration plans to said country (yeah alright then Canada). I'm spending a lot of money getting there to meet up with him. His company is based in a smallish city where there aren't that many agenices and they probably all talk to each other. So here's the thing; would you make appts with all the other agencies while you're there or would you think that your potential new employer might feel that you may not be showing commitment to his agency by sniffing around thus jeopardizing a possible strong employment lead? I guess there are approx a dozen agencies in the area. I don't think this agency has ripped off the Mill logo if that's any help.
*no offence Baskerville - think you played the whole thing very well.

'pends how strong the offer is.
But if you are paying for your trip there then what you do is your own business and it would make sense to use that time to look at the other options that may be availible to you. I guess.

go to the nearest major metropolitan area and sniff around there. it sounds like you're talking to an agency that's in a pretty small pond, but if you can schedule a layover in toronto or montreal, then see some people there.

They are not paying for your travel?!

I spent a week in Toronto last year and though I got a favourable response nobody was interested in going through the emigration hassle for me. Plenty of call us when you get here type responses. I don't mind working in quieter areas though as long as the work is secure.

I would see how your meeting goes, if it's not to your liking, stay a couple extra days and sniff around.

Other (potential) employers should respect your anonymity, I feel it is irrelevent. Look around there is no harm in trying. So I see it.
why shouldn't you. you've got to look after No.1

(May 9 07, 08:07)They're not obliged to. I'm coming for a week and it will be a holiday too so I'm not concerned about the money.

I should probably read the entire post as opposed to just going, "Sigh, that looks like a lot of text."

Yes. You're forking out a few grand to spend a couple hours w/ these people, you should definitely have a look around town, if possible, just to hedge your bets. If they (the people you're interviewing with) get sheisty on you, then it's not a company worth immigrating for.

Thanks guys and gals. I think you're all right.
*Starts googling.
