I got the sad ipod Icon with x's for eyes ....there was no motor sound and no harddrive activity at all
even when trying to reset the iPod nothing .. nothing at all
RIP iPod
Dec 2004 - May 2007so with some suggestion from a co-worker I dropped it on the floor a couple of times and guess what
that motherfucker is working again
thanks Apple

they may be high-tech gadgets but they still need a good wack once in a while
- Rand0
did you try the reset button combo prior to that?
- tyranisus0

Still rocking my OG 5gb 1st generation iPod... over 5 years old now and never a single issue.
They don't make em like they used to.

yes I did ......there was no sign of life ....
when you hold a working iPod it will vibrate slightly in your hand
mine was completely still

i had a browser freeze earlier today, nothing helped.
so i threw my powerbook out the window from a few stories high, and guess what, it still ain't working..

yeah mine does that.. it give off these little sounds - kinda like mini pistons firing to 'start the motor'
i just knuckle the back of it pretty hard and it ends up working
i thought i had 'the fonzie' touch.. but i guess not

I did that a couple of times to a dying hard drive in my old PC tower. That old thing was a train wreck - it's a wonder it's still working.

I love the mentality 'If its broke, hit it hard'. Tried it with my last nokia phone. Screen smashed, signal got worse and my temper didnt improve.
They certainly dont make em like they used to.
However, is your friend a qualified apple technician? Cos I wouldnt whack my iPod for fear of incurring its wrath...

i'm so bored of this thread.
over and over again. every week.
oh my good... my ipod died...
you know what? bad luck. shut up!

Yes.. same happened to my iPod... dropped it on the floor a couple of times and it's working fine again (for the time being). I wonder how many people end up sending theirs back to Apple and paying a fortune to get it fixed ahhhhhhh.
