i just got my ps3. and i'm trying to conect it to my sony 26" hdtv (720p,1080i). but somehow it's still show 480i resolution. it can't detect hdmi connection. i chk everything but it's still not working. a cable i use is 720p, 1080i.
do i need a specific hdmi cable for ps3 that delivery 1080p?
any advices please.

I've got mine connected to my 30" Sony HDTV with a $10 HDMI cable from eBay. The guy at Gamestop tried to say my cable would be inferior to their stocked $50 cable, but he was talking right out of his arse.
A couple of quick questions, Amen...
Have you selected the right input to view the HDMI signal? My TV has HDMI under a separate input channel from standard video/composite/scart.
Have you tried manually selecting the display settings instead of using the PS3s auto-detect?
Ribit, if you're waiting for GT5 you'd better forget HDTV, we'll probably be using holograms or eye implants by then.

- yes. i believe so. i'll double chk. but do you think it about my tv not support 1080p? but it should view at 720p max.
- well, i'm not sure i'll double chk. i only set it from ps3 and it seems can't find hdmi. do u think my hdtv broken? coz i just got it a fews day ago also.thank you guy. i'll try to double chk again.

OMG it's working now!! i just chat w/sony tech. the problem is i should set the input from my hdtv to a different vdo ch. oh boy...
thank guy for yr help! play now work later....

No problem, glad it's working :)
You really need two connections to set it up for HDMI, otherwise you can't see what you're trying to set up.
If your TV's a 26" then 720p will be the best option. 1080i looks blurry on my 30".

Those Monster cables or anything else from most retailers aren't worth the money. Get one from any decent online shop and use the rest of the money to invest in GTA4 when it comes out.

This hi-def stuff can get so complicated... Remember when you could just plug your system in through the composite connection, change your TV to channel 3 and everything just WORKED?

yes. well, my hdtv says on the manual that vdo input for game should use ch.2 . but it's not working. so i just switch to vdo input ch.6. which a tech from sony told me. then it's working fine now. so it's not about hdmi cable.

NEVER buy monster cables.

I heard the PS3 was gonna support 2 side by side hd displays.....
That would have been the sh*t! I'm sure they cut it though, tough times for sony for what we here

I still say PS3 is an unfinished piece of crap. Nothing works right even with 1.7 update.
If it wasn't for Blu-Ray I would've never bought this piece of crap.
No games, playstation store crap and don't get me started on their downlads.(they just slammed a half ass browser in there and ripped the PSP interface for the whole console), no proper standby on joysticks, the batteries are not replacable and you have to recharge them via USB cable WTF!? and so many other things. Yeah cool, but we do have Folding @ Home. WOW super awesome.
Xbox 360, XBox Live, 120gb HDD and sick games and HD-DVD FTW. and it comes to approx same price as PS3.
