morning peeps. What are your suggestions for a nice lcd monitor for my office. I am looking for 20"+ that is not crazily overprized. Give it to me...

i have a samsung at home and a Dell in the office, they're not bad — Dell are better, but you do pay for what you get. I would say that the apple screens are overpriced.

I heard that the Apple LCD and the Dell LCD were made in the same factory, then shipped to receive their casings elsewhere. I love my dell monitors, but if I ever win the lotto, I'm getting apples...

yeah, I checked and the difference is almost double. Apples are way overpriced. What other brands or models would you recommend?
- ribit0
I've got both Dell and Apple LCDs..not the same screens. Dell has purply blacks, way brighter (in a bad, flary way). Apple looks more like printed paper.

rabit... calibrate your screens ;P
I'd say to anyone, go with the dell2007wfp.

Go with the Dell, and ribit, follow the above mentioned advice.
In my months of research before purchasing my Dell, I'm came across of bit of info that the panels do come from the same factory, can't remember if it was LG or Philips? I'll see if I can't dig up that info again.
Macs are purdier tho... and if I had the moeny to burn...

osfa i've got two dell monitors. the ultrasharp 20" widescreen at work and the 19" at home. i friggin love em. they look great, the colors are vibrant and crisp. i'm very happy with them.
the 20" widescreen is more than enough room to fit everything on.
i highly recommend it.

i have a dell 24" - my wife has a dell 27" and i'm totally jealous.

be sure not to get the E207WFP though, the panels are inferior 6bit dithered ones.

20" dell at work and another at home, not a single problem so far (5 months ownership)

i have the eizo flexscan s1911 and it's great
19" at 1280 though, but enough space for me

I have two Dell monitors, both flat panel lcds, one started to darken on one corner and both of them are on the blue side of the spectrum despite my efforst to calibrate them. My Apple cinema is great, it hardly needed any calibration (I do a lot of color correction of photos), yes, it's pricey but I think it was worth it.
- cacoe0
"hardly needed any calibration"
Are you eyeballing it?... Not the best idea if you're doing lots of colour correction...
- Daro0
No, i didn't eyeball it. I used a very sophistimacated do-wacky that calibrates monitors. I took RBG readings before and after and it wasn't that off to begin with. Talking about monitors, does any one know why Barco stopped manufacturing monitors?

i have a 2405 widescreen dell and a 20" 2005 dell and i think the color quality on the 24 is much better. this leads me to think that it really greatly varies panel to panel, even in the same price level (for their difference in size, they're closely priced).

I have a Dell 2007WFP at home that I bought in January. Did tons of research, and was lucky to get the S-IPS panel.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the screen has this somewhat crystalline look to the pixels. My Planar 19" at work with a lower quality lcd panel is very smooth, better than the Dell.
On the Dell, some areas of lighter colors, blues, light reds, etc. you can really see a texture to how the color is displayed. It's very strange, but I guess I've gotten used to it. It may also have to do with a need for a better video card.

Faster and brighter than the Dell

NEC 20WMGX2
I think it's the only one on the market currently using LG's new AS-IPS pannels (next gen from Cinema Display's panel)
We've got a couple at work and they're a real step ahead of any other LCD I've seen or worked with. super smooth gradients, no banding, rich colours, and deep neutral blacks.
Profiled really easily too.
