I have yet to find a program that allows me to place the video marker on any point of a Youtube video (meaning: instead of having to watch the entire thing, I want to watch a few minutes, but it defaults back to the beginning whenever you attempt to move to another point of time in the video).

Jaline
(Apr 18 07, 06:01)thats because they are progressive downloads and not true streaming videos

Just add the url of the video and convert it to whatever format you want

i like http://www.vixy.net/ as well.

Yeah, Undo, I just though maybe after you downloaded the video, it would be different. Guess not.

once you've downloaded it, you can then stream it to a player of your choice - which will allow you to do what you want.
the player used by youTube is freely available for download...ill dig out the link.

thanks. I still don't think you can access any part of the video though. you have to go from the beginning to the end, can't go to the middle.

you can once its own yr own hard drive, you cant if it progressive download (because that section hasnt been downloaded)
- Jaline0
You can't even when it's on your own hard drive.
It's an .flv file, and that's the main format you get when downloading videos from Youtube.

you can jaline, its only when its downloading you cant. on a pc you can run an flv through windows media player classic and jump to anywhere on the timeline
- Jaline0
I need a codec to play that format, apparently.

pc or mac?
- Jaline0
PC. I'm downloading one now, let's see if it works.
It's kind of hard to find specific video codecs for the Classic player.
Looks like you could be right, although I wish more programs (like the actual FLV Player) would allow you to access different times of the video.
