Now I know you can run Windows XP SP2 on a Intel Mac through Bootcamp, but can you run Vista with full 3d acceleration?
The reason I'm asking is, I want to get a 17" Mac Book Pro but I would also need to run Vista and 3ds max.
Anyone?

I'd think so.. It has exactly the same specs as if you'd run OSX

yeah, windows programs cost less than mac ones do too!

Yes, the new boot camp supports Vista.
But...
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT TO?
Ahhhhhhhh... sweet.

(Apr 13 07, 01:38)Browser testing alone would be a good reason.
Flash, Dreamweaver.. are so damn slow on the intel mac, also OSX can behave quirky with windows fonts.I wouldn't buy my mac if it didn't support windows. Now I can launch bootcamp partition alone or through parallels, that's extremely useful.
Funny thing, windows mounts video iPods way faster than OSX does.. also, you can't update standard (windows) formatted ipod under OSX.

True. I don't do web stuff so that wouldn't really occur to me.
Sorry for the caps :)

I run XP on a macbook pro as my main machine. There are some issues which I have encountered such as keyboard mapping, weird mouse tracking, some strange audio issues too. While I love the look of the computer, and the ability to have OSX on hand if I need it is great, I'm begining to have second thoughts about this set up. Because it's "non-standard" and few people have it there's a lack of support with these small issues (listed above). I'm kind of wishing I'd just stuck with a PC now since I don't use OSX as much as I thought I would. I use flash/PS/DW - all on win and don't have mac copies yet anyway.
I think a better option for me may have been a mac mini for testing and running mac specific apps on and a win machine for the main work. I'm reasonably technically competent when it comes to computers but I just hate spending time fixing them when I should be doing work I am being paid for.
Just a thought for you . . .

that is the most odd/unique/crazy setup you have, trevedda- what in the world made you run MS on a MAc full-time? you clearly love the hardware design and components available i take it...
cool insights- thanks for sharing.

If the mac equivalent drivers are as bad for 3D as the ones for a regular pc, viewport performance in 3d studio max will be horrible. I mean REALLY bad. I have a 7600gt. It works great in XP and terrible under vista. For 3d studio max in particular.

@trevedda
Could you elaborate on your keyboard mapping issues?
