this morning on the CBC radio show 'The Current' they mentioned his death and talked of a recent interview he held with a cbc reporter about his new book....
they play a snippet of the interview here
http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/med…you'll have to skip ahead to 20 minute mark in this real audio file.
it's worth it - to hear his latest concerns.
the interviewer - at the end - says thank you to Kurt and he replies "Go jump in a lake."
:) - thanks again Kurt!

One of the best contemporary American writers, what a loss. He made the world better.

Wow, awful sad. Read all his books in high school and college.
He lived a long time for a man who smoked unfiltered Lucky Strikes.
So it goes...

heh. that was just a term of endearment. you know, like maybe i'm babe ruth and you're blue cos joe dimaggio just died and i come out of the stadium and give you my mitt and tell you to chin up, kid, it ain't the end of the world and then i swagger off into the mozzie-filled twilit night and shake my head at the futility of it all and why-oh-why do the young ones have to see such sadness, such sadness...
*weeps
**but in a swaggering, manly, baseball kind of way

(Apr 12 07, 01:06)People die, its the way things work. No need to get so gloomy over it all.

(Apr 12 07, 01:24)Bad day because publication ringing me first thing for a late advert for a client who has neglected to inform me that he has booked some space. Then I read this thread so it seemed apt.
Plus I finished Paul Auster's In the country of last things last night so I'm feeling particularly despondent about everything today.
So there.

"His last book, in 2005, was a collection of biographical essays, "A Man Without a Country." It, too, was a best seller. It concludes with a poem written by Vonnegut called "Requiem," which has these closing lines: When the last living thing has died on account of us, how poetical it would be if Earth could say, in a voice floating up perhaps from the floor of the Grand Canyon, "It is done." People did not like it here.
"beautiful.
rest in peace.
