i was *this* fucking close to going to the Falklands when i was in Ushuaia last year. i have heard the most awesome things about them.
- pristine wilderness
- awesome ice climbing (epic)
- tons of lamb
- but windy as a mo-fodidn't Prince someone fight a 'battle' there like in the last 20 years?
- skt0
yeah, Prince Andrew was a helicopter in the falklands war. and it was 25 years ago as jevad eventually pointed out.

I thought it was just cool military patter, like that's what you call chopper pilots in the forces...

Maggie was the shit.
She knew how to get stuff done.
SAS would've been in and out of Iran by now if she was running the ship....

I remember my dad listening very closely to the radio when the conflict finished ( I was an army brat and we were based in Bielefeld in Germany at the time). His old C-in-C was over there and was the one who eventually announced the surrender. When you're in or involved in the forces these things have a peculiar resonance. Seeing the pictures of the Sheffield (I think) blowing up still seem very vivid to me. And I have heard some stories about some of the things that when on over there. It was a mercifully short but quite brutal war. Anyway enough gung ho stuff, respect and remember I say. For those on both sides.

Indeed...the sinking of the Belgrano still resonates with me.
And Thatcher was a fucking bitch all said and done - but I have to agree with Mike in so far as the SAS being in and out of Iran already.
