Whats the word on the street in the UK surrounding the british soldiers being held by Iran?
Curious as one can only glean so much about local sentiments from the media.

We're glad to hear they're being treated humanely but fret that they're not getting their daily dose of tea and crumpets.
An interesting read from one of our better newspapers..

I can picture the scen now,
"we are arresting you please to be moving into our boat"
"I say crawford awful bad luck this wait till field marshe haig hears about this I'm sure a strong letter from him will bloody the noses of our captors"

From Nairn's article:
British Admiral:
"Rather than roaring into action and sinking everything in sight we try to step back and that, of course, is why our chaps were, in effect, able to be captured and taken away."
American Admiral:
"The unique US Navy rules of engagement say we not only have a right to self-defense but also an obligation to self-defense. They [the British] had every right in my mind and every justification to defend themselves rather than allow themselves to be taken. Our reaction was, 'Why didn't your guys defend themselves?'"
Shorter answer: War w/Iran is coming on the back of probably a dozen dead American sailors in a small boat that is currently trawling around Iranian waters with a huge "Fuck You Iran" sign on it.

American Admiral:
"Wtf is a 'chap?' He's one of them nancy boys, int' he?"

as you can see. most people dont really care.
- chossy0
why on earth would you post a picture of you and your boy friend?
- Nairn0
Actually, Kuz - I'd like to think that most people do care - we just appreciate that this is potentially a terribly sticky predicament, which if dealt with badly could spur more serious repercussions. Fact is, this situation is a product of the arena of war, so most people's opinions are essentially valueless - this is the kind of thing our politicans were elected to sort out for us.
Christ, we're doomed.
- Kuz0
ok, yes, let me change my opinion.
British word on the street is, we want it to be sorted out.

Faridon takes hold of a thick metal chain holding several heavy metal balls and the exercise begins. Faridon swings the chain in the air, keeping beat with the tambourines and a man singing to the glory of Imam Ali. "O, Father of Hassan. O, Lion of God."

We really need to start deciding things with Steel Cage death matches between world leaders...two men enter, one man leaves, midgets, Tina Turner..the whole nine..think of the revenue from the TV rigths alone...and we get Big John McCarthy in there - "You ready? You Ready?! Get it on!!" And we can spin off SpikeTV series with the world leaders being trained for their death matches, all living in the same house...

Man they are REALLY pissed over this 300 movie thing.

Every iranian believes more in conspiracy than news, fact, or the obvious. Everyone knows that behind the reality there is the true reality, the real reason why something happened or will happen. Only a shrewd man will see the truth. The shrewder still will discuss it becuase that really conceals the deeper, truer reason.
It suits their purpose that an insult drives their foreign policy and it serves our self-delusion they would be so stupid.
