I had a militant PETA member as a sociology prof my first year in college. All we did was read Night by Elie Weisel and watch PETA vids. Oh, and then there was our first assignment of reading a 52 page paper he wrote about who he was in a former life and how he had contacted the surviving family. Freakin nut job.
Anyway, the way I see it is killing is killing humane or not the end result is the same. I don't understand the argument of how animals are treated before they are destined to die at their prime for food. Most people who make that argument don't eat meat usually so I give them credit for that but to me its one or the other. You either support the whole animals as food/clothing industry or you don't support them entirely.
I guess I don't see much grey area here.

PETA sucks and are full of hypocritical jackasses.
In college we had this over the top PETA supporter in our video class. One week she's showing a video called "Does your food have a face" which pretty much was 5 minutes of animals getting slaughtered for food. Something right out of the PETA handbook. Then starts getting on my case cause I happened to be drinking milk during the video while eating a Whopper. (I planned it cause I knew she'd be showing this video, I just wanted to rub it in) And milk was bad blah blah blah.
The next week she's showing a video on her drug habit and gave a how to on growing your own Mushrooms. I had a field day when she actually said in the video "next you want to take cow manure and use that as a fertilizer so your mushrooms can grow" and I could almost not stop laughing.
She wouldn't eat meat or drink milk cause of the injustices caused to the cows but she sure as hell will use their Shit to help fuel her drug habit. Fucking unreal. The whole class was laughing.
