I really tired of people who paint the same painting 100 x's over and make a career out of it.
What are their thoughts? "This looks cool, I'll only make different version of this painting for the rest of my life!"

in reading your post too quickly I thought there would 100 x's in the painting and though that sounded pretty good

the dalek pieces are fairly interesting, yes a bit redundant but interesting none-the-less. that bigfoot shit is lame though.
as for the same painting over and over and over, well artists have been doing that for centuries.

cant you call that a certain style for the artist?
ie. shepard fairey, chuck (no pattern), wk interact, sam flores...etc

redundancy is different from a meta-process. I agree that the dalek work is for me, redundant. There is no sense of meaning or repsective growth to the actual process/result that transpires.

haha, here we go again, this is gonna turn into a Chuck thread again...

Good call.
I bet that Bigfoot guy knows the name of every colour green in existence.
A lot of artists establish a style or a muse and base their work on this for a period of time.
Then they naturally move on to something new. It's called progress. Sometimes, ones progress is so influential it inspires a movement.
Regurgitating a variant on a theme might get appreciation but it's from 17yr old students that skateboard to shops for their mum and only listen to 'the chillies.'

i LOVE it when artists express the same idea over and over again.
cindy sherman
david hockney
gilbert&georgeit's creating a visual framework to help the nuances to stand out innit.

where do you see the art? i only see merchandise.

as an artist, you stick with your style you naturally develop in to other style over time, with in a short range of work, it would be hard to see but with large body of work, it would be more evident.
like Warhol to picaso, they seem to have produced similar work over and over but the body of work as a whole it has transition and path / movement

artist has critical allies ( dealers, writers, buyeys, consultants, clients, collectors, editors) who can place the work into priveleged places thus confirming their prescience and interest when seem by hoi polloi.
This stuff is just Ronnie Cutrone.

a friend of a friend, a penniless waiter in a new york restaurant always kept images of his paintings with him in case some art world hot shit came in. One night he showed a dealer his work and the dealer for some reason decided he liked them, whipped out his phone and called Charles Saachi and persuaded him to buy one for an exporbitant sum of money. he then called a gallery in LA and said that Charles Saachi had just bought one and arranged then and there for a one man show at even more inflated prices

the story has no point, I just realized

the point is that the art world is fucked!

(Mar 23 07, 05:37)Just want to mention that using Picasso as an individual who had an expressed style or produced similar work over and over is absolutely, dead wrong.
Dont mean to be confrontational, but Picasso's work spanned many mediums and was never stagnant, redundant, or could be labeled as similar work being produced over and over – I dont think.

picasso lived in paris and painted during its occupation by the nazis and after the war declared himself a communist.
Hahahahaha
