any of youse got a cat? or a rescue cat, I'm a lonely person and think I should ruin a cats by getting one, what I want to know are the logistics of keeping a cat in a top floor flat in Edinburgh thats a small city to you and me :/ I'm pretty much certain it'll be tough on the cat / me but I'd like to hear some experiences if there are any to share, I'm thinking of building a massive kitty walkway :D so he / she can dodge up it to get to it's wee kitty house within my massive man house.
cheers dudes and chicks for any input with your output yo!.

shud be fine man. As long as your flat is spacious. Most cats are indoors only, they're not like dogs. Just has a corner somewhere maybe a converted closet or in the kitchen so it can take a shit.
relatively inexpensive. But its a big step looking after something like that, just in terms of responsibility, not being able to leave it alone for weeks on end etc...

cats seem ok, from what I've seen of friends pets. Anyone lives and works in the city and owns a dog should be eaten by dogs, if you ask me.

cheers, I'm an animal lover in many ways so I really don't want the wee scamp to have a rough life, just there is this cat rescue place near edin. and I fancy giving it some love yo!
I should probably take a couple weeks off work to get it to adjust to my flat and surrounding area yeah?.

the one thing against it is the cat litter, its shit box so to speak...
that's the only thing that would put me off, then again I'm looking to move to a rural setting in order to have a black labrador :)

My cats, Keith & Jackie are very different from one another. Keith is quite the young adventurer, probably cruising for fresh feline friendship. His sister, Jackie, on the other hand, is a bit of a recluse.
Not keen on the outside world, she will gladly spend all day watching Trisha and Ready Steady Cook. What I'm trying to say is all cats are different. Some might freak out in a confined space, some won't.

hi dude, funnily enough i live in a top floor flat in edinburgh too and i got 2 cats (sisters). which is better IMO so they can play and stuff when we're not home.it's definately a big responsibility, we got them from when they were kittens, thats why we got 2.
its harder to find an indoor cat from a rescue place, most are outdoor. but you can do a waiting list type thing.
but if you do find one definately take a week off. i would reccommend girls too, they're cleaner & they dont spray their territory.

Our cat was 15 when we got her... was unwanted in a pet shop as a kitten coz of being nervous, was given to a mad old lady, and for 14 years kind of just lived with her and hid... the woman died and the rescue home went in to look after her and feed her until the house was sold... but they could never find her, but the food was always gone.
Eventually when the house was sold the woman from the resuce home took her to her house with ten other cats...
anyway we went to see her, and now she is at our house, and slowly coming around...
She is nervous and likes her own space, so ideal since we're out most of the day... don't get a cat that is too young and wants too much attention if you're gonna be out a lot... ours soon tells us when she wants some space!

Get 2 and get them young that way they always have company.

it'll be fine, I mean, if you compare it to how great you are at looking after your car for example, it'll be fine, just EXTREMELY filthy inside and out after 3 years and only one wash.

Whilst girls are cleaner, boys are much friendlier and more affectionate.

I'm sure I read this somewhere:
Anyone who calls a pet a human name is retarded.
I agree, but replace the word retarded as it's american, with 'a joeball'.
Chossy will probably call his cat Mittens or Tiddles you heard it here first.

neither sex is necessarily more affectionate. depends on their upbringing. all cats seem female to me anyways, seems wrong for a boy to be feline... anyhow...
i got 2 females, they're both the friendliest and affectionate things ever.
rescue cats are likely to be a bit cagey if they've been stray or mistreated.

oh, and mine are called cosmo and dibbs.
remember that show?

My cats shit in the escape pod from 2001.

(Mar 23 07, 04:33)I hate obvious pet names like 'smokey' cos it's black? pffft.
Names like Dave the Dalmation or Steve the Staf, brilliant.
