as more clients and designers than not don't know the difference between good and bad design, being a bad designer is no impediment to a successful career

The title "Junior AD" makes me laugh... isn't that what a designer is? ;)

I agree. experience is ezential. but I've also seen design veterans with many years of experience that really suck.

congrats acedeuce, and yes, I do believe a person can be THAT good and fresh that he/she would get hired as a senior designer or AD.

I'm fourteen and have been designing for 8 years

acedeuce, hope it's going well with them. If you or anyone you know is good/real good with flash. I've got a lead for ya.

for the big shoots it's always better anyway to have more than one person from your company directing, especially if the client has brought along it's own small army, as often happens.

it was only the first day and know its gonna be alot more than just leading people. directing shoots is gonna be a trip.
acedeuce
(Mar 21 07, 11:51)That will be depend on your CD. If they're controlling, you may never direct a photoshoot by yourself. If they're chill, and you show some skill in directing, they'll slowly wean you off over several shoots and then leave you alone, more or less.

you're still in school and an AD? so who exactly will you be directing? a set of 15 year old interns on summer break from highschool?
skt
(Mar 21 07, 11:53)No, although I think that'd be entertaining. I would've graduated a couple years ago, but i've been working full-time straight out of highschool.

In a lot of agencies AD = designer. In some design firms, Art Director is synonymous with Design Director, which is a senior level position involving project management and so forth as someone described above. Not the same thing as AD in an ad house. Job responsibility varies from place to place.

funny...i just started my new job today as an AD and still in school.
boohoo if you're underpaid, don't take it then. but agency experience is a major plus on a resume.
