Carter eagerly worked with Alan Fletcher, Colin Forbes, Bob Gill, Derek Birdsall, David Collins and other 1960s heroes of Britain’s fledgling graphic design industry to produce several sans serif faces, including one for the new terminal at Heathrow Airport.

ooh i dunno typoraphica...
the heathrow version seems to have hairline serifs rather than bracketed serifs
the ear on the g is angles on the heathrow
the inside cut of the c is straight as opposed ot the round plantin
the links on the g seem straight cut ont he heathrow as opposed to the rounded links on plantin
the terminal on the m also seems different (pointing upwards)
the small a in particular is the most different is got a totally different cut bar the terminal..
with all these differences.. im thinking its a totally different font..
?

You are correct about all those things. But that is the flesh of the letters. The Heathrow face has Plantin's bones. I'll have a more complete answer tomorrow when my UK contact replies.
