I use µTorrent b/c it's lightweight and simple.
http://www.utorrent.com/Sites to download from:
http://www.isohunt.com
http://www.mininova.org
http://www.torrentspy.com
http://www.eztvefnet.org/Then there are the sites that you have to get invited too, but we'll talk about that once you get more experience :P

My stupid laptop is set up all weird thanks to my IT department and every time I change some settings on my computer in µTorrent, it doesn't actually update.

Azereus is probably the best for mac as it is highly suped-up w/java and runs slow on a pc.
I use μtorrent and I don't know if it is on a mac... good luck.
- Jaline0
There is also
http://www.scrapetorrent.com/to search more than one torrent site at a time.
- ozhanlion0
transmission is great.
use demonoid.com for your dl pleasure.
- jaylarson0
I highly recommend http://btjunkie.org
as well.
- ozhanlion0
stay away from azureus if your on a powerpc mac. java machine is way much slower than on a pc. azureus is good since it supports UDP but I think it doesn't worth it in general. stick to a cocoa native application. transmission is good.

Like http://demonoid.com there are sites that you need to get invited to before using them. Including:
http://oink.me.uk (amazing for music)
http://www.bitme.org (for books and e-learning)
http://www.bitmetv.org (television)
http://stmusic.org/ (music)
To trade for invites to go:
http://www.torrentinvites.combut I think, as a beginning, you should be able to find most of the torrents you want at the public torrent sites.
- aliceblue0
many thanks :D
do you think it'll screw up anything in my new PowerBookPro?
thinking I should install on old Power Book - one I clean it up.

as far as i know BitComet is pretty much hassle free.. try it on ur old laptop.. but it never actually caused me any problems
saying that i dont wanna be responsible for fucking up ur computer :)
- aliceblue0
yeah oldelpaso - I'll do it the old one ...
scared to touch the "new" baby
- Jaline0
Yeah, I think it should be fine to use. But be a little careful.
- ozhanlion0
does anyone wanna trade an an invite? I could invite you to demonoid if you invite me to oink.
- de4k0

Is anyone concerned with being discovered by the RIAA? I quit using any P2P cause I keep hearing about average joes who download a few songs here and there gettting sued.
The RIAA has even set up an online payment for settlement site.
I wonder how concerned I should actually be about this, has anyone had any experience with them?
- jaylarson0
i might if i were downloading illegal files. i use these programs to share high rez audio and video files of my own making with friends around the world.
but if you are leery, i recommend peer guardian.
