oh, and in answer to the thread – build your taxes into your cost. always.

i build taxes into cost, as well as special 'pain in the ass' fees i use to pad the proposals for clients i already know will be difficult.

once you have a good list of clients that will use you repeatedly and provide good word of mouth it is time to leave the USA.
Outside of the US things can be much cheaper [I live in Thailand], you can skate tax free with less than 80k, and your lifestyle will be cheaper and more interesting.

ok in that movie Stranger Than Fiction.... maggie gyllenhaal's character stuck all of her reciepts and shit from the last 3 years in cardboard box to make it harder for him to audit her..
..is that realistic? if so, what if someone never kept records of ANYTHING? or just hid them and said "nope, never kept them?" to an auditer?

lol during an audit it is up to you to provide proof to the IRS. no proof, no deduction which could equal tax evasion. You are responsible for for everything.

soo, if some guy just went about his ways and never recorded ANYTING or saved ANY forms regarding that shit, he can get in trouble? thats a little ridiculous.. it's like a mom punishng a kid for losing his homework grades.
how is that enforcable.. "you must hold on to papers!!"
