any experience with western dig?

but glyph doesn't actually make the drives, just the enclosures. what's on the inside is what counts. like with people! seagate or hitachi are regarded as the best

I've got a portable Lacie and three external Maxtor drives.
They are all great. I'd look for deals on techbargins.com.
Each company has a few different models, so make sure you read the details (like access speed)

i own a portable external drive to carry around and use an enclosure to back up my work

just get a quality drive and pop it in an enclosure. simple and cheap, plus you can be exactly sure you're getting a quality drive (unlike many of the lacie drives which, just from posts on here in the past few years, seem to fail a lot)

WD is coming out with a version you can access remotely, with a direct RJ-45 jack in the back

i have only bad things to say about LaCie... and their customer support is lacking

(Feb 22 07, 06:31)the cost of an external in a casing vs. an external are nearly a wash.

I have two My Book Pro Triple Interface 500gb. They are good drives but the negative thing is that the drives can't be daisy chained! Which sucks. WD Customer support aren't exactly helpful either, just acknowledges it as a known problem that can't be solved.
