there's a book called 'wind wave pine', or something like that, which has a pretty hefty library of family crests in the back – most or all of them are representational of a particular natural thing (a plant or bud/blossom in this case). I'll check it out when I get home and let you know if there's anything useful in there.
I got nothing on the Kanji, but the middle character is 'ri' in hiragana and katakana. not like that helps.
I'm so white.

well I dug around a bit and came up with nada. you might find some people on here now from Japan who can help out...

i don't think that's a family crest. right next to the symbol, it says in japanese 'split peach' or something similar. it could be some type of logo for a peach packaging.
now, this site has a lot of family crests.

I think it says, "for a good time, tickle her couche with a feather"
or are you talking about the characters on the right?

Its a family crest, and means half-peach (もも momo) or something to that extend.

Thank you. Actually, I was considering a tattoo based on this icon. I am rather intrigued with icons of all sorts. Especially those that have functioned in cultures over thousands of years.
Do you suggest I not? I've thought alot about it—and mybe it is my ignorance to the japanese culture, but I don't quite understand the harm.

i think you should get a tattoo saying
Okama
or
Tsukebe
asian / japanese character looks VERY cool on white folks

I'm not white.

the Kanji character tattoo is definitely a bit cliched, especially if there's no particular significance, but the family crests are a whole separate class of Japanese iconography

i am not saying i disagree, i see no harm too.
but i do agree with blastofv that unless the design mean something, otherwise it could be just another tribal-style tattoo design.
i guess sometimes tattoo cannot be rationalised, it just feels right.
a crest also represents the japanese respect for nature (plants, waves, etc.) as well as the concept of family spirit and pride. which could be a mitigating factor why it makes a good tattoo. ;)
there are many crests in the pdf link i sent... maybe choose one that has special meanings? u can check out the origin and significance of the symbols (e.g. old chinese coins, cherry blossom, etc) just dont pick one that is actually a contemporary ceramic logo design or some milk-produce company logo. :P

there are plenty of symbols that go back eons in european culture. I never understand why people think asian cultures have more history than others...
