Does anyone else find it really hard to work with a brief sometimes that has absolutely nothing to it...i know that sounds like a stupid question but bare with me on this.

We do a lot of work for the BBC Philharmonic, basically posters and leaflets for concerts and events throughout the year. in theory it should be the perfect job, nice budgets, clients cool about letting us do what we think is best. BUT...

There's never any imagery supplied, we hardly get a title to work with and they don't really like the idea of just using type.

i always think, 'great, a new BBC job', but then when i start working on it, i can hardly think of where to start.

Anyone else find this. i much prefer a tight brief with constraints...but then again i moan about that as well! Shit, i'm just a moaning bastard always wanting what i haven't got! anyone else like this!?

Last time I had a tight brief I got a cramp in my left ass cheek.

    I know what you mean.

I've done several jobs just lately where I've barely been given the company name/business before begining the site.

I've tried to explain that if we could get some idea from the client of what they want and, hey, maybe even some of the content for the site prior to creating it then the result might be that much better and we wouldn't waste several days having to go back and re do things that we already did but i've just about given up.

I try to remind myself that its not my money/time thats beign wasted and that i'm getting paid for it no mater how many times I have to re do things due to the lack of a propper breif but still, the whole thing drives me up the wall...

    And breathe.

Not quite the same thing I know but hey, feels good to get it off my chest...

the worst is when they give you no direction, but then they endlessly waffle about what they want once they've seen it.

i think i might add a clause in my contract that says "if no direction is given whatsoever, STFU, pay me."

    ha!
