i have a text with a metallic type gradient runnin thru it... is there a way to distort only the gradient ?
- Nairn0
define 'distort', please?
- Dancer0
Depaned how much you want to "distort" it, if it is merely the colours and the position, use the gradient pallet. Anything more complex you should use the gradient mesh tool.

i would like the gradient to have a wavy effect but not the actual text outlines...

Mesh tool in illy.

thanks

here's a tutorial

yep, mesh tool - if you want the gradient to be cohesive between letterforms, you may wish to do the gradient mesh as a block, then use a compound path of the letterforms as a mask.
Or.. you might not. :)

awesome

don't use the mesh, it's a fucking nightmare if you need to change colors and you'll never get a smooth wave.
just make a standard gradient on a regular rectangle, slightly larger than the text, apply an envelope distrot to it with one of the wave meshes, and mask it with the type.

Hey johndiggity
your solution seems perfect for my case, the only thing is that when i apply a wave envelope for example the shape itself get distorted but not the gradient... when i rasterize the shape i do get the desired effect but obviously its pixelated...
any tips to get around this?
thx

OK i got it
dont have to rasterize just click envelope options first and then apply Make with Warp
works great!
cheers
