Enter topic: What do you think of the new BFi logo? It seems a debate is brewing after some negative feedback got up the designers noses.

oh, and that lens flare is one of two things.
1. it's atrocious and will (soon hopefully) go the way of the dodo bird
or
2. it will ignite a lens flare stampede of logos even worse than the plastic wrapped logos that have arrived in recent years

besides the fact of the lensflare i don't like the typo..its not balanced out..its to chaotic and will off course be hard to use in applications.
because the people who made this forgot a bit what a logo is all about.
yes its setting a strong brand mark..but its also making this brand mark so adjustable that it can fit with every communication mark like t shirts, posters, letterheads etc...
its also a bit scary to see the comments on minilatistic is out etc..the purpose of a logo is just this. a signal mark that can be used on all applications...its suppose to be minimalisct(using the term losely) so the treatments can be more complex..with this logo they just made it hard on themselves.

and... I don't know if I'm having deja vu or I've actually been to the future and back or what's going on, but this whole thing seems old and familiar to me, like we have all berated this idea before, months ago. I dunno?

it looks very much like the identity of the local tv station back in 1998.
was looking for an online example but can't find it.

I prefer the old logo than the new 1 because the new one stands nowhere and brand position will be in a mess. To me it might be just a concept work then a logo
- mimeartist0
I like it, and it makes sense for who they are.

i don't a logo has to say for what the company stands for...it just needs to be a strong signal mark.
and above all something thats applieable to all the communication work. how is this gonna work on white paper? it will not..so you will always have to use the balck square around...

y'know, i actually kind of like it. had to see it moving first in that ident, but then it all became clear.
why the fuck not? for a film organisation in a digital world, what does it matter if the logo doesn't perform on white in B&W at 1"?
(as long as they have lenticular business cards, of course :)

the exicution is also poor.
its a really bad flare, it looks like a preview from the knoll lightfactory plugin for after effects.
btw. that animation is actually also quite bad.

I thought that about the quality at first, but then (and it's kind of hard to tell from that wee preview) thought it had kind of an old-time archival feel - like colourised footage.
As for the animation - that's the beautiful thing about 21st Century animLogos - you can change and evolve them! ;)

nairn
i dont follow the 'feel'
i think the focus logo( as written in the blog) has this more.

the mark sans lenflare isn't too bad. and animated it does make sense but could be done better. I would have just sourced a real lens flare not that crap filter version

i quite like the animation, I'm interested to see how it translates to print work, and whether there is a nice flat mark version, as I really rather liked the existing one, tho there are some flaws.
hmm.. need more information really, see how the whole ID spans out, silly to make decisions based on seeing one small thing.

rasko,
there is more info in of the links of the blog.

hmmm. I quite like it, but it lacks a little something, dunno, I guess time will tell. I wonder just how much flexibility it really has.

I've seen so many logos designed that one look awful on tv/film, and even their colours are a poor choice when they are for tv companies...
I think press is less important for this as most people will see it at the cinema, and when on posters I think it'll sit well... just my opinion though

the real question here is are the aperture blades on the camera straight or curved?
