yes Jaline, I'm also bummed a little. Although your young, I used to enjoy the sound and warmth of AM radio. Baseball games and such aren't the same on FM.
First commercial radio station in the US was produced about 15 minutes from me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDK…
the first was in Montreal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XWA…

that came out wrong. what I meant to say was it's very weird to me that a lot of groups are switching over. Now it's just news, oldies and classical. and a lot of them are second tier.
the fact that you are young has nothing to do with it, except that as a kid I remember it being so much more.

you check that pogo electronics link? granted it's teeny

(Jan 18 07, 16:33)and you're the knee-jerk apple hater. what's the difference?
- version30
you call me an apple hater, but you're wrong, i hate apple marketing, i own an ipod and a mac mini, both no less or no more than my dell or my zen
- version30
they are electronics, no more no less

yeah, thanks Justin. I think the price for the nano is pretty good too though, so we'll see.
I read the article about potential problems and it's still better than the average mp3 player.
(I've had two other mp3 players so far, within the past 7 years, and they've both lasted me a long time. I still have an old one, but since it was made like 5 years ago the technology doesn't compare to the ones out there now.)

iPods are decent. I'm not a hater, however, you can get a lemon. Plenty of horror stories out there. Eh, but I guess you could say that about anything. There were just a gazillion sold, so you hear more about it.

in my opinion, AM radios are useless if you can't connect a good antenna. AM radio is a tough thing, it's the nature of AM signals, they are subject to ionospheric refraction and require a very good antenna positioned perpendicular to the signal and are very sensitive to movement. refraction is more prominent at night, which is why stations have to lower their power or go off the air, because the refracted signals travel very far and interfere with eachother.

(Jan 18 07, 16:40)ok, i take it back. and agree with you. carry on.

Jaline, I'm with ya, what can we expect from a hard drive that you carry around and knock about in our pocket? the only thing my zen has on my ipod is i'm not afraid to drop it (purely cosmetic though)
and my ipod plays video which is more of a novelty than use

fuck, when I was in the middle of nowhere Namibia, South West Africa I used a shortwave radio like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-ICF-SW3…
granted, it was very nice and I picked up the BBC from Kenya, plus a ton of local crazy ass shit
It supported FM stereo, MW, LW, and Shortwave Band (up to 26,100 kHz) radio bands.

Yeah, the AM signals do tend to suck. I just think it shouldn't be that hard to implement it into regular MP3s nowadays. And if they don't think many people will buy it then at least have the option to add it on.

obviously Apple needs to work on getting its products less susceptible to damage.

I had an iPod for 4 years, and eventually replaced the battery myself for 30 bucks. It's scratched to hell but I don't care. The screen reads fine. I also bought a 1st gen nano with no probs.
I think what sets the iPod apart from the competition is iTunes and the way it translates to the iPod. It's just nice to use.
I hear what people say about apple ass eaters, but there really isn't a comparable product if you are a fan of quality interfaces and great functionality.

I love my nano, use it everyday. Never had to restore it once through iTunes but it wasn't anything tough to do. Thing about ipods are a lot of cars are offering ipod connections. Not an aux port, but a real ipod connections so you can control it via radio or steering controls. I hooked one up in my car last summer, havn't used the 6 disc changer since. It's so nice. you'll love it!

yeah, i wanna hook that up for my vehicle but it costs 1k US
