Anyone actually do it? It's become a fee frenzy! If you want to sell something for $10, and want the post to actually be seen, the fees run almost 8$. It's no longer a reasonable place to sell your old stuff. You have to be a 'store'.

also, if you are using paypal, they take chunk off also.
i hear bidpay is good for low fee.

I haven't sold anything there in years.
Anything that I want to get rid of that is of little or no value I take to the Salvation Army.
If I want to sell something I usually ask around the family and friends. More times than not someone I know bought my stuff.
Too many fees I agree.

It's really strange tho, knowing the fee's now, I still see these posts selling things for $3, ending bids, less that what it cost to run the listing. Why would anyone bother? Granted when you're selling ps3's for $7500, then the $8 fee is worth it, but when you're selling half broken G I Joe's from 1982, $8 listing fee's are harsh!

get off my half broken gi joe collection joe, it reminds me of blowing them up with m-80's (war is harsh)

paypal takes percentage of your money that you will receive
also, forget about complaining for none payment or fraud or none item sent.
they dont have toll free and also they have long wait time (45 min to 90 min) AND they wont resolve anything for you.
When ever it says Paypal, fraud guarantee on ebay, it means nothing cause paypal wont do crap.

when I hit that age where playing with toys was beneith me, but still too young to be fully mature, I began taking a lighter to my JOE's, melting them together and making some of the sickest creatures ever! I wish I still had those.

not true, i made a purchase from ebay and never got my item after a couple months, guy communicated with me then nothing, so i told my bank on him, they gave me my money back, then went after paypal. go visa.

It costs me 30p to list each time. Always the same start price 99p. If something is worth £50 it will generally get there. Stuff finds it's value.
I've made over 4k selling for the last 2 years. Got some 'slow' stuff on at the mo as well...
Used Pixies concert ticket stud anyone?

Or (cough) Marillion...

I quite often sell the Sunday newspaper supplement magazines on Ebay (anywhere between £1 to a tenner). Generally there's an article in there that someone somewhere wants to read (particularly music articles).
So, anyway, yes I still sell.

What viable alternatives to eBay, if any, are there?

----In all my buying and selling I've only been burned once. Generally if you're sensible and web savvy (hopefully most of the people here are..) you won't get out.
Only an idiot's gonna get caught out by one of those fake paypal emails.

Shit, JR - a "Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Gold Tea Caddy"?
I'd've had that! :)

v4 you went via your bank. i went via paypal which was a mistake because paypal made an instant judgement against me even though that guy sold the same item as Second Offer to 5 other people who bid on it. They said that there is no such thing as collective fraud, they deal with individual one by one. Which meant that, the guy said he sent the package providing tracking number (which was not sent to my address but that didnt matter to paypal cause as long as tracking is there, its confirmed sent)
then i called my bank, the bank said, paypal has made their judgement so they couldnt help me.
lesson of the day..
best way to fraud ppl on ebay is to offer Second Chance to multiple people, get their money and send random empty boxes to people and you win.

viable alternative to ebay is using an ebay store in your area, go sell your stuff in someone else's "store" i have a place a half mile from me, we sell stuff through them all the time, just drop it off, sign, and let them know what your bottom dollar is, if they can't sell it you get it back, if they do, well, they send you a check, you may not make as much as selling it yourself, but you get their reputation and they do all the work. well worth it

Actually I bought that. My wife loves Yorkshire Gold and it was a kind of joke xmas present for her (can't seem to find it over here).

(Jan 17 07, 09:14)very true but when you see a guy with 40 comments at 100% rating, there is nothing really you can do.
i actually got the guy's address and wanted to have a visit but when i called (got his home phone via reverse look up and also phone on ebay), the guy moved away. so i mean, he was thinking of fraud and run
- dopepope0
all those misc fee's add up to those 'IT' commercials on tv every 3 minutes.

In fact Nairn I find what you're doing (looking at feedback history) one of the weird things about Ebay. It's often worth checking out the feedback of the people who buy off you. You find some odd purchases. Hours of (insert: sad, lonely) fun.
