He is my hero. Even before the PP project. Stood in line at Berkeley for 2 hours when he came to give this presentation and never got in. But I did get the book.

It's amazing how much business is conducted/communicated through PowerPoint though. Some Presidents and VPs think in the terms of slides and ultimately never see their ideas any other way.

Has no one heard of the expression "tongue in cheek"?

(Jan 12 07, 12:20)Kind of my problem with it. i admit to being a similar part but a much smaller one. Too cliche of an act. At the end of it all there is no message, there is no point (pardon the pun). It's just that actions like this show themselves as publicity stunts more than bringing awareness to a cause or anything that is positive. Granted it is not negative, so like i said. Drivel. Just filler.

The idea of streamlined "sound-byte" thought is what intrigued me.
It seems to relate well to design and the challenge of communicating a complex "message" very clearly and with the fewest elements possible.
David Byrne's exploration into what the experience of the "great unwashed" is in terms of how they communicate and present ideas in a similar way to the way that we as designers do is of some value if only for reflection.
...or I'm thinking too much

His point is to inspire conversations like these. He succeeds in that. Filler is something with no value, that inspires no thought or discussion.

Is this much of a conversation though?... so far - it's had one or two useful comments... then... 'drivel' (or 'filler') as someone said. :)

I saw him at hanover square about 6 years ago... the encore was I wanna dance with somebody by whitney... it was brilliant!

A fine-artist friend did some pieces in powerpoint. He went on to Goldsmiths after his foundation.
I also had an experience teaching a girl how to use Flash for her poetry. It took ages. Then she said someone told her the same thing could be done in powerpoint, that took 5 minutes.
Do not underestimate the ppt

Isn't Powerpoint just a digital/electronic flip-chart?
Sequential images/diagrams are something new?
It's just media, just because its main sphere of use is corporate why the big deal?
Like Saville's experiments with stock photography, yeah ok but once it's done, it's done?
